Asha Bhosle: The versatile singer

Leepa Chakraborty: Asha Bhosle is one of the greatest playback singer in Bollywood history. She was born on 8th September 1933 in a Gomantak Marathi Brahmin family in Sangli, Maharashtra. Her father Pandit Deenanath Mangeskar was a renowned classical singer and mother was Sevanti. Lata, Usha and Meena are her sisters and Hridaynath Mangeskar is only brother. She was married to Ganpatrao in 1949, then after a breakup with them, she married Rahul dev Barman for the second time in 1980.

Asha Bhosle has sung more than 10000 songs. Fan of her voice are spread all over the world. Apart from Hindi she has also performed many songs in Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Punjabi, Malayalam, English and Russian languages.
Her speciality is that she has spread the magic of her voice in Classical Music, Gazal and Pop Music and has achieved similar success.

In music world, Asha achieved this position through her hard work. She was honoured with many big Awards.
She won 7 filmfare Awards in best female playback singer category in the year 1968,1969,1972,1973,1974,1975 and 1979. She received the lifetime Achievement Award from filmfare in 2001. In 2000 she received Dada Saheb Phalke Award. She has won 2 National Awards in 1981 for ‘Dil cheez Kya hai’ from ‘Umraojaan’ and for ‘Mera kuchh saman’ from ‘Ijaazat’. She also won the IIFA Award in 2002. In 1989 she won the ‘Lata Mangeshkar Award’ from the Government of Madhya pradesh. She honoured with the Padmavibhushan Award by th government of India in 2008.
The Guinness Book Of World Records officially acknowledged her as the most recorded artist in music history.
